Danny to play in the Open?

Congratulations to Danny Barton, one of our PGA Professionals, who has recently competed and succeeded at regional qualifying for this years Open Championships. At the point of writing this, Danny is currently playing in the final stages of local qualifying at Ladybank Golf Club in Fife, Scotland. A good 36 holes could see Danny lining up alongside some of the world's greats on 15th July - 18th July. Fingers crossed that we will be able to share some very exciting news with you soon. Watch this space and GOOD LUCK DANNY!

Cancer Campaign in Suffolk Golf Day

We are pleased to announce that Cancer Campaign in Suffolk (C.C.I.S) are going to be hosting a Charity Golf Day with us on Wednesday 22nd September 2010. We hope that it will be a major success for them and their fundraising for this year. If you are interested in playing in this event it is open to all club members and visitors. You can download a poster with more information on the event by clicking here or to simply download the entry form then please click here. Please help us and C.C.I.S by showing your support by entering this event.

Congratulations and Commiserations

Firstly, congratulations to the Senior Beaumont Trophy team who defeated St Audrey's narrowly by 2 holes. To see the full match report click here.

Unfortunately, the Senior Parkes team could not quite overcome Rookery Park in their match on Wednesday 16th June despite a very valiant effort. For the match report, please click here

Holes-in-One Success

Over the past five weeks we have congratulated FIVE members for achieving holes in one and feel that in this short space of time this is a remarkable occurrence. Perhaps it has something to do with being a member of Seckford? Well done again to Anja Soby-Gibson, Jan Connett, John Andrews, Sean Bailey and Ken Farrow. The only bad thing about their successes is that the Bar takings over the last five weeks have been down as no members have had to buy any drinks!

Open Competitions entry now available

We are holding three more Open Competitions over the remainder of this year. The dates of these can be found by clicking here and we are now inviting anyone wishing to take part to download an entry form and return it to us as soon as possible.

Festival of Golf comes to an end

The Festival fortnight has finally come to an end with the last event being the Junior Open on Sunday 6th June. It has been a very busy fortnight for most involved with the Golf Club. Josh and his catering team have worked tirelessly to provide some lovely food throughout and the Green Keepers have been up extra early to ensure the condition of the course has been fit for every event. Well done and thank you to them for all their hard work. Also, thank you to all the members that took part in the Festival of Golf we couldn't do any of this without your support! We already have begun planning 2011s Festival so watch this space for more details.

Beaumont Trophy win for Senior Section

Playing for the first time in the Beaumont Trophy, our Seniors hosted Southwold on the 14th May in the first round. The winning team (shown above) managed to overcome the opposition by a margin of 5 holes. Notable performances from pairs Mervyn Leach and Norman Wood and Nigel Pusey and Nick Lee helped the team secure this victory and progress to the 2nd round where they will play either Hintlesham Hall or St Audreys.

Tolly Team safely through to next round

On 24th April our Tolly Team booked their place in the next round with a welcome win over Bury St Edmunds. The Team of Malcolm Peat, Nigel Clough, Mark Edgerley, Brian Baker, Adrian Gipson, Mark Crisp, Ian Bedford and John Cunnell ably led by non-playing captain Barry Coxall enjoyed a 6 hole victory over a strong Bury side. Full report to follow.

Josh Dubovie to perform at Seckford GC

The winner of the BBCs 'Your Country Needs You' programme hosted by Graham Norton and Lord Lloyd Webber is set to perform at Seckford Golf Club on June 5th 2010 at the Summer Ball. The date has been organised for Wednesday 27th October 2010 and we will be releasing entry forms for this nearer the time. Please watch this space for further details or why not subscribe to our e-newsletter?

Captains' Drive In - Saturday February 20th 2010

Please can we ask all the members that are available on Saturday morning to show the new captains for 2010 their support by attending their official Drive-In. This is scheduled for 8:00am on Saturday 20th February just prior to the shotgun start at 8:30am. If you are able then please do come along. There are also some interesting sideshows and challenges to enjoy with prizes to be won.

Snow, Snow, Snow

With 2010 upon us and the weather proving incredibly frustrating, we would ask all members to support the Golf Club as much as possible during this cold spell. The Restaurant and Club House is being kept open as much as possible for members to use and Josh's team are available for breakfasts, lunches or afternoon tea! In addition to this Paul and his team have cleared temporary greens and opened the golf course so that members can at least get to stretch their legs or enjoy the very fresh air!

Danny 'Tops the Table'

Congratulations to Danny for his success in winning the Suffolk PGA Order of Merit 2009. It was played over 6 events, through the year, across the county, Danny had 2 wins, a second and a third place giving him a forty point winning margin over Alistair Spink. Chris Smith, one of the Counties leading amateurs finished in third place. Danny's win qualifies him to compete in all East Region PGA events in 2010 without needing to qualify. I am sure that you will join with us in wishing Danny all the best for those events in 2010.

Secretary's Society Success

Recently our Secretary, Graham Cook, played in a local Society Match at Woodbridge Golf Club. On the day, Graham recorded an incredible achievement that we thought worthwhile sharing. The Society was running 4 Nearest the Pin Competitions on the 4 Par 3's at Woodbridge. Graham obviously had his Iron Play in good shape as he claimed 3 out of 4 of the Nearest the Pin Prizes - One of which he HOLED IN ONE! Graham also narrowly missed out on the last Nearest the Pin Prize, which would have completed a Full House. Congratulations to Graham for his Hole-in-One!

Parks team's run comes to an end

Our Parks Team were enjoying an excellent run in this Year's Competition and had played some excellent golf, both home and away, to reach the Semi Finals for the first time in the Club's History. However, this run ended in a close fought Semi Final on Wednesday 12th August over the Course at Fynn Valley against Ipswich. The Final Result was a loss by just Five holes, which was still an excellent result and all congratulations should go to all those that were involved with this years Competition. We wish Ipswich all the best in the Final.

Simon wins Hintlesham Duel in style!

The Final of the PGA Matchplay Plate Competition was played on Monday 10th August 2009 and featured our very own Simon Jay. Simon's opponent was Tony Moore from Ufford Park, so this match was very much a local derby. The Match was played at Hintlesham Hall Golf Club in calm early morning conditions. After a steady start, Simon was able to gain the advantage and went on to win the Match 5 & 4, thanks to some consistent play which his opponent was unable to better. Congratulations to Simon!

Course Layout Changes

In recent weeks, the Committee have been carefully looking at the Layout of the Golf Course and have decided to introduce the following changes. The Par 5 6th Hole will become a Par 4 from the Whites and Yellow Tees, but remain a Par 5 from the Reds. The Major changes start in ernest on the Back 8 though. The Holes will now run in this order: Hole 11, Hole 12, Hole 13, Hole 16, Hole 17 (which will also become a Par 4 from the Whites) Hole 18, Hole 15 and then Hole 14 to finish the new route. All these changes will hopefully fix the problems we were experiencing with Stroke Indexes of the Holes, in particular the new ones. It also brings the CSS of the Course in line with the Par of the Course which should help with handicapping.

Good Turn out for SGM

On Wednesday 15th July, the Club saw the first SGM since the Members Take Over was successfully completed. There was an excellent turn out with 80 people squeezing into the Clubhouse to hear about the Proposals for the Club over the next 5 Years and to vote on the modified Club Constitution. For those that were not able to make the meeting, please do not hesitate to contact the Club for more news.

Sam makes it a Double

After winning the Junior Open, Sam Pollexfen followed up with Two Wins over the Club Championship Weekend. On Saturday 11th July, Sam shot a steady 74 to take the Junior Championship by two shots from Charlotte Double. Then, obviously not content with a solo trophy, went on to shoot a 68 and 72 to claim the Club Championship by an incredible 13 Shots. Rob Squirrell the next closest Competitor. Eddie Gildea played two excellent rounds to claim the Burton Bowl (Net Championship Trophy).

Danny is back...!

Danny Barton has recently returned to Seckford following a period at Fynn Valley. Danny has returned to strengthen the teaching line up at Seckford and will be available to teach 5 days a week. As well as this, Danny will be representing Seckford at many East Region PGA Events and Pro-Ams around the County. We know that all the Members will wish Danny all the best and make the most of his expertise.

Sam takes the Title

Well done Sam Pollexfen, the new Junior Open Champion, who shot a tremendous Level Par (68). This was an excellent achievement in a strong field with Tom Piddington and Christian Hewson also shooting well below their handicaps. There were 53 Entrants in total and we would like to thank all those who came from other Golf Clubs to participate in the day. We hope that you enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you all again next Year.

Festival of Golf well underway

This years Festival of Golf is past half way now and just a few events are left to enjoy. Our Customary Quiz evening was well supported again and Simon made an extra special effort to ensure that 'plenty of laughs' were had by all. All our Opens have now taken place with the Juniors, Seniors and Ladies enjoying excellent weather, a smashingly prepared Golf Course and fine food. On Saturday 13th, a Texas Scramble Evening was organised by Adrian Gipson, our Social Organiser. A Hawaiian theme throughout the day got people into the spirit for Limbo Dancing, Mai Tais and Deal or No Deal! Still to come though we have a Fashion Show and Wine Tasting Evening on Thursday 18th June, Captain's Day and Summer Ball on Saturday 20th. We hope that those involved have enjoyed the week so far and for those that haven't....what are you waiting for?

Festival of Golf dates announced

The Festival of Golf Schedule has now been confirmed and there is a whole host of Activities to enterain both Members and Non Members. The Week will run from 13th June through to 20th June, culminating in the Summer Ball which will be held at the Golf Club. The Itinerary is now available to view and is posted on the Festival of Golf Notice Board in the Pro Shop. Please keep this week free and come along to enjoy all the Events that we have planned. Such as: Quiz Night, Fashion Show and Wine Tasting, BBQ Nights, Social Evenings and, of course, the Summer Ball.

The Members Take over is successful!!

On 1st April 2009, it was announced that Golf GB Ltd had been sold by The Robson Family to The Seckford Members.

Golf GB Ltd is the Company that manages the Golf Club and this essentially makes Seckford a Members Owned Golf Club. Larry Isherwood will now step into the General Manager's Role to facilitate the early stages of development after the Take Over. Bob Higham and Dean Barker (Handicap Secretary and Club Captain) have been elected onto the Board of Trustees, with another two Trustees to be elected at an EGM to be held in July. Exciting Times for Seckford and hopefully a very prosperous Future.

First Hole-In-One on NEW 18th Hole

Last Saturday, we had the first Hole-in-One on the new 18th Hole. Rob Squirrell was the lucky golfer who enjoyed this landmark occasion. Playing as part of a busy Saturday Club group, Rob was very happy to be the one buying the drinks. Congratulations to Rob on his achievement.

BREAKINGNEWS-Members Propose Take Over of Seckford!!

Following the previous attempt by the Members to purchase the Golf Club, a new deal has been outlined. This plan is being spearheaded by Larry Isherwood, Dean Barker and Bob Higham. They have set up an arrangement with the Owner that takes into account the current economic climate and that benefits the Members of Seckford. Three Meetings have been arranged for Friday 6th March at 7:30pm, Sunday 8th March at 3:00pm and Tuesday 10th March at 2:30pm. All these are being held at the Golf Club and are an excellent opportunity for the Members to get more information and ask any questions that they may have. Larry, Dean and Bob urge as many members as possible to attend so that this One-Off opportunity can be made possible.

'A License to Murder' is a hit with Guests!

We hosted our New Year's Eve Murder Mystery on Wednesday 31st December 2008 at The Terrace Restaurant. All guests who attended were very happy with the hard work that had gone into organising and running the event. The food, as always, was excellently prepared by The Terrace's own catering team and guaranteed all had enough energy to attempt solving the Mystery of James Bland's Death. Our guests all entered into the spirit of the event and enjoyed spending the night quizing Cast members and dechipering cryptic clues. Our 8 Cast Members couldn't have been more helpful and ensured the event was a huge success. We would like to re-itterate our thanks, given on the night, to these volunteers: Mick Parker, Ros Parker, Danny Davey, Cheryll Davey, Keith Horrocks, Chrissie Moffat, Paul Jay and our own Simon Jay. The Murder was solved by two teams correctly and the eventual winners were Quantum of Solace. Congratualtions to them. All proceedings wrapped up in time so that staff could charge the Guests glasses and see in 2009 to Big Ben's chimes and a chorus of the traditional Auld Lang Syne. See Pictures from this event below.

Incentive to get Juniors into Golf!

From 2009 Seckford will be allowing Junior golfers to become Members of the Club without paying a Membership Fee. Any Juniors joining with one Full paying Adult will be eligible for this new inicitive. The Adult will be able to sign up as many as three family related juniors under their membership in an aim to improve the level of Junior Golf at the Club. Hopefully, these juniors will go on to represent the County at various levels too.

Simon finishes 3rd!

On 3rd December 2008, the Winter Alliance held their meeting at Seckford and it was a well supported event. Despite the frosty conditions, golfers battles with the NEW layout at Seckford for the first time in a major event. Visiting Pros and Golfers were very complementary about the course's condition and the new setup. Alex Lucas must have enjoyed the new layout as he shot a 2 under par round of 66 to hold of Simon Dainty of Fynn Valley by one stroke. Our own Simon Jay was able to finish in the prizes taking third place in a strong field. In the team event, the prizes went to Alex Lucas' team with a very commendable 118. The format was best 2 scores from 4. Well done to all who took part, especially the team from Seckford: Simon Jay, Graham Cook, Larry Isherwood and Nigel Pusey.

Both new holes will be put to the test over coming weeks with members keen to try them out. The 17th and 18th Holes should prove tough tests and enhance the level of the course.
